Lo scorso 30 e 31 agosto 2025 si è tenuto tra Sainte-Croix (Svizzera) e Les Fourgs (Francia) il Festival des Terroirs sans Frontière 2025, giunto alla sua 21ª edizione. Per la prima volta, l'intero evento è stato dedicato all'assenzio, simbolo del patrimonio culturale transfrontaliero. Due giorni di degustazioni, dimostrazioni, musica e convivialità, con oltre 70 espositori tra distillatori, artigiani e produttori locali.
Abbiamo il piacere di condividere con voi il reportage di Nicole & Peter, due grandi appassionati di assenzio che hanno partecipato al festival e ci hanno raccontato la loro esperienza, arricchita dalle loro splendide fotografie.
Sulla strada per il festival
Venerdì dopo il lavoro siamo partiti per Les Fourgs pieni di aspettative per il festival. Quando siamo arrivati al Notre Chalet, Monika ci ha accolti e ci ha mostrato le nostre camere per le due notti successive. Qui avevamo già soggiornato per una settimana lo scorso autunno e ci eravamo trovati benissimo. La casa è in gran parte in legno, le stanze sono arredate con amore, c’è una bellissima vista e anche una sauna. E ci sono tanti riferimenti visibili all’assenzio. 😁
Quella sera non avevamo molto tempo, perché avevamo un appuntamento con Diane Tripet, così siamo andati a Boveresse. Diane ci ha accolti calorosamente e ci ha fatto visitare il suo museo privato e la sua collezione gigantesca di assenzi. 🙀
Abbiamo sentito il bisogno di guardare ogni bottiglia singolarmente e conoscere la storia che c’era dietro. Diane ci ha raccontato tante storie della sua vita, i suoi legami con l'assenzio e quali bottiglie speciali ha ricevuto in dono. (Noi avevamo portato una Valkyria di Valkyra distillery e per fortuna non la aveva ancora).
Dopo siamo andati al suo bar in giardino, decorato con cura con innumerevoli poster sull’assenzio e i suoi ricordi delle Absinthiades. Ci ha invitati a bere un assenzio, un aperitivo e una deliziosa bolognese con gnocchi.
Abbiamo trascorso più di 4 ore a chiacchierare di assenzio, del mondo e delle nostre vite mentre la sua musica suonava in sottofondo. Non vediamo già l’ora di ripetere una serata così con Diane!
Il Festival des Terroirs sans Frontière
Si svolge ogni due anni tra i comuni di Les Fourgs e Sainte-Croix. Quest'anno l'absinthe era il tema principale, quindi hanno partecipato 10 distillatori e noi siamo partiti per esserci. Un grande tendone principale era stato allestito proprio sulle vecchie pietre di confine dei due comuni, con una piccola tenda attaccata.
C'era anche un'area esterna. Con 70 espositori locali, due bar, diversi set musicali sotto i tendoni, un'area ristorazione molto fornita e la grande fontana d'acqua della Maison Absinthe, c'era tanto da scoprire. Dai prodotti artigianali (fontane per assenzio, taglieri in legno intagliato, simpatici burattini, abbigliamento, saponi e dischi decorativi a tema) ai vari alimenti della regione (formaggi, salsicce, cioccolato, vino, miele, lumache, frutta e verdura) e all'arte: un’ampia selezione da toccare, assaggiare e annusare. E c’era l'assenzio.
Le distillerie di assenzio
Dopo un caloroso benvenuto allo stand della Distillerie Aymonier e la degustazione di 7 nuovi assenzi (uno colorato con asperula, un altro a base di calvados), Françoise & Mayra ci hanno raccontato che le distillerie locali erano sempre state presenti al festival negli anni passati, ma quest’anno, con un totale di 10 distillerie, si era creato un vero e proprio piccolo festival dell'assenzio. Gli stand svizzeri e francesi erano debitamente separati dal vecchio muro di confine, e i distillatori continuavano ad attraversarlo per assaggiare gli assenzi degli altri. Sì, abbiamo visto un distillatore francese bere un assenzio svizzero e viceversa! 😂
Philippe di Absinthe La Valote Martin ha sottolineato quanto per lui, come presidente della Route de l'Absinthe, sia importante mantenere un buon scambio e offrire all’assenzio un palcoscenico così prestigioso. Purtroppo non era ancora riuscito a portare con sé le sue ultime creazioni, perché è ancora in attesa della consegna delle bottiglie ordinate dalla Grecia. 🙄 (Ma non vogliamo anticipare di cosa si tratti).
La Maison Absinthe era presente con uno stand e un bar per la Route de l'Absinthe ed era sostenuta musicalmente da un collettivo artistico. Quando i distillatori trovavano un po' di tempo tra i clienti assetati (di conoscenza), c’era sempre un vivace scambio – su progetti in corso, i loro assenzi e anche piatti fatti in casa.
Da Nathalie (De derrière les Fagots), oltre a una chiacchierata calorosa e un abbraccio ancora più caloroso, ci siamo portati a casa un piccolo carico di cioccolatini all'assenzio e la sua intenzione di lavorare a un nuovo assenzio. (Siamo molto curiosi).
Non c’è da preoccuparsi per la fornitura di nuovi assenzi da La Semilla - Aymonier e da Distillerie Stillerie. Anche se i ragazzi di Fleurier hanno presto raggiunto Françoise in termini di produzione con i loro assenzi mensili.
Julien è stato così gentile da portarci una selezione di campioni degli ultimi mesi fino all’anno scorso. Non vediamo l’ora di assaggiare questi assenzi creativi e insoliti. A proposito di creatività: Romain di Distillerie Wanner ci ha tentati con un tè - un liquore distillato a base di quattro diversi tipi di tè nero ed è anche dannatamente buono. 😅
Restando sulla nuova generazione di distillatori, abbiamo avuto anche la possibilità di chiacchierare con David, Le Loutron Libre e Marc, Distillerie Montrieux e assaggiare i loro assenzi. David ha vinto una medaglia alle Absinthiades dello scorso anno, e la sua nuova absinthe è un'evoluzione dal gusto fantastico.
Anche l'anice e il gin meritano di essere provati. Non vediamo l'ora di visitarlo presto nella sua distilleria per saperne di più. Marc ha aperto la sua Distilleria Montrieux a Pontarlier 10 mesi fa. Con l'esperienza di distillazione trasmessagli dal padre e dal nonno, ha già 4 assenzi, 3 liquori e un gin nel suo portfolio. Le bottiglie si distinguono per la loro forma insolita e le etichette colorate (e si ispirano all’aspetto dei flaconi di profumo).
La fontana di Distillerie Marguet Champreux è stata un colpo d'occhio e l’assenzio invecchiato in botte di Stèphane ci ha tentati all’acquisto. Particolarmente interessante è stato il confronto tra i suoi due assenzi con la stessa ricetta, ma con la differenza tra distillazione con erbe fresche e con erbe essiccate.
Purtroppo lo stand di Distillerie Bourgeois il primo giorno era gestito da due ragazzi giovani ed entusiasti ma che non parlavano inglese, quindi non siamo riusciti a scoprire molto. (Recupereremo alla distilleria quando ci sarà l'occasione).
Distillerie Emile Pernot era il decimo del gruppo con il suo stand e (il primo giorno) si è concentrato sui suoi liquori.
Oltre alle conversazioni vivaci e alle degustazioni deliziose, continuavamo a pensare che sarebbe un luogo meraviglioso per un festival permanente dell'assenzio tra gli absintheurs francesi e svizzeri. La presenza comune in un unico posto e il vivace scambio hanno creato un incontro molto informale tra distillatori e ospiti.
È stato a malincuore che abbiamo dovuto andarcene prima dell’inizio del secondo giorno. Ma non vediamo già l'ora della nostra prossima visita nelle terre dell'assenzio.

On August 30 and 31, 2025, the Festival des Terroirs sans Frontière, took place between Sainte-Croix (Switzerland) and Les Fourgs (France), now in its 21st edition. For the first time, the entire event was dedicated to absinthe, a symbol of the cross-border cultural heritage. Two days of tastings, demonstrations, music, and conviviality, with over 70 exhibitors including distillers, artisans, and local producers.
We are pleased to share with you the reportage by Nicole & Peter, two great absinthe enthusiasts who took part in the festival and told us about their experience, enriched with their wonderful photographs.
On the way to the festival
On the way to the festival: On Friday after work, we drove to Les Fourges full of anticipation for the festival. When we arrived at the Notre Chalet, Monika welcomed us and showed us our rooms for the next two nights. We stayed here for a week last fall and really enjoyed our stay. The house is mostly wooden, the rooms are lovingly furnished, there is a beautiful view and a sauna. And there are noticeably many references to absinthe. 😁
We didn't have much time that evening as we had an appointment with Diane Tripet, so we drove to Boveresse. Diane greeted us warmly and gave us a tour of her in-house museum and her gigantic collection of absinthes. 🙀 We felt the need to look at each bottle individually and learn the story behind it. Diane told us many stories from her life, the connections to absinthe and which special bottles she received as gifts. (We had brought a Valkyria from Valkyra Distillery and luckily she didn't have it yet).
Afterwards we went to her bar in the garden, which is lovingly decorated with countless absinthe posters and her participation in the Absinthiades. She invited us in for absinthe, an appetizer and a delicious bolognese with gnocchi.
We spent more than 4 hours chatting about absinthe, the world and stories from our lives while her music played in the background. We are already looking forward to repeating such an evening with Diane!
Il Festival des Terroirs sans Frontière
Le Festival des Terroirs sans Frontière takes place every second year between the municipalities of Les Fourges and Sainte-Croix. This year, absinthe was the main theme, so 10 distillers took part and we set off to be there. A large main tent was erected right on the old boundary stones of the two municipalities, with a small tent attached to it. There was also an outdoor area. With 70 local exhibitors, two bars, several marquee sets, a lavish catering area and the large water fountain Maison Absinthe, there was plenty to discover. From handcrafted products (absinthe fountains, carved wooden boards, cute hand puppets, clothing, soaps and decorative themed records) to various foods from the region (cheese, sausages, chocolates, wine, honey, snails, fruit and vegetables) and art, there was a wide selection to touch, taste and smell. And there were absinthe. (Butt more on this in the fowlling posts.)
Le distillerie di assenzio
The absinthe distilleries After a warm welcome at the Distillerie Aymonier stand and the tasting of 7 new absinthes (one with woodruff in the coloration, another based on an apple brandy), Françoise & Mayra told us that the local distilleries had always been present at the festival in previous years, but this year, with a total of 10 distilleries, a small absinthe festival had been created. The Swiss and French stands were duly separated by the old border wall, and the distillers kept crossing the border to taste each other's absinthe. YES, we saw a French distiller drinking a Swiss absinthe and vice versa! 😂
Philippe from Absinthe La Valote Martin mentioned how important it is to him as president of the Route de l'Absinthe to maintain a good exchange and to offer absinthe such an outstanding stage. Unfortunately, he was not yet able to bring his latest creations with him, as he is still waiting for the bottles ordered from Greece to be delivered. 🙄 (But we don't want to anticipate what it will be). The Maison Absinthe was represented with a stand and a bar for the Route de l'absinthe and was musically supported by the artist collective. When the distillers found time between the (knowledge-)thirsty customers, there was always a lively exchange - about current projects, their absinthes and homemade food.
At Nathalie's (De derrière les Fagots), in addition to a warm conversation and an even warmer hug, we took home a small truckload of absinthe chocolates and her intention to work on a new absinthe. (We are very excited).
There's no need to worry about the supply of new absinthes from La Semilla - Aymonier and Distillerie Stillerie. Although the guys from Fleurier soon caught up with Françoise in terms of output with their monthly absinthes. Julien was kind enough to bring us a selection of samples from the past months up to last year. We are already looking forward to tasting the creative and unusual absinthes. Speaking of creative: Romain from Distillerie Wanner tempted us to try a tea - a distilled tea liqueur made from four different types of black tea and it's also damn tasty. 😅
Staying with the new generation of distillers, we also had the chance to chat with David Le Loutron Libre and Marc Distillerie Montrieux and taste their absinthes. David won a medal at last year's Absinthiades for a reason, and his new absinthe is a fantastic tasting evolution. The aniseed and gin are also worth trying. We look forward to visiting him at his distillery soon to find out more. Marc opened his distillery in Pontarlier 10 months ago. With experience from distilling with his father and grandfather, he already has 4 absinthes, 3 liqueurs and a gin in his portfolio. The bottles stand out with their unusual shape and colorful labels (and are based on the appearance of perfume bottles).
The fontaine from Distillerie Marguet-Champreux was a visual highlight and the barrel-aged absinthe from Stèphane tempted us to buy it. Particularly interesting was the comparison of his two absinthes with the same recipe but the difference between the distillation of fresh and dried herbs.
Unfortunately, the Distillerie Bourgeois stand on the first day was manned by two young but enthusiastic teenagers who didn't speak English and so we couldn't find out much. (We will make up for this at the distillery when the opportunity arises).
Distillerie Emile Pernot was the 10th in the group with his stand and (on the first day) focused on his liqueurs.
In addition to the lively conversations and delicious tastings, we kept thinking that it would be a wonderful place for a permanent absinthe festival between French and Swiss absintheurs. The joint appearance in one place and the lively exchange created a very informal get-together among the distillers and guests.
It was with a heavy heart that we had to leave before the start of the second day. But we are already looking forward to our next visit to the lands of absinthe.
